Students and Box

What is Required to Have a Box Account?

Box uses Outlook (also referred to as "O365") email addresses to authenticate users.

All faculty, staff, student employees, and students have O365 email accounts.

Who Can Have a Box Account?

Faculty, staff, student employees, AS employees, and CSE employees are automatically provisioned Box accounts.

Students who are not student employees are not provisioned Box accounts at this time.

Volunteers can have Box accounts by request, assuming they have also requested an O365 account and they have approval from an appropriate administrator in their area.

Can our Students Access Box with a Generic Account?

For security reasons, generic accounts are not provisioned Box accounts.

Student Employee Can't Log Into Box

If you have a student employee who is trying to log into Box and they are having problems, please check the following:

  1. First, the student employee's record in PeopleSoft includes their current active  employment on campus.
  2. Make sure they are logging in as  username@csuchico.edu
  3. If they have never used Box or their O365 email account before, they may need to reset their O365 password.
    1. Have them log into the Portal
    2. Click on "Account Center"
    3. Click on "My Password" in the upper right
    4. Enter a new password
    5. Try logging into Box
  4. If the student is still having issues, contact ITSS to confirm they have an active O365 account, and active Box Account, and their Account Center record has the appropriate affiliations.
