Respondus is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed or published directly to the Learning Management System (LMS). This guide will help you download, install, and set up Respondus for use with Chico State's Canvas instance.

Prerequisites

  • A Windows machine (Respondus is not available for Macintosh).
  • Administrative access to install software on your machine. If you are using a campus machine, request ITSS to install the software via this ticket request.
  • Instructor access to Canvas to retrieve the licensing password.

Step-by-Step Instructions

To download, install, and set up Respondus, do the following:

  1. Download Respondus 4.0.8.06 for Windows:

  2. Check for new updates:

    • Within Respondus, go to the Help menu and select Check for Update.
  3. Retrieve the Licensing Password:

    • Log in to Canvas.
    • Select Help > Start Search Here and search for "Respondus."
    • Follow the search results to find the institution name, local support contact, and installation password.

  4. Enter Licensing Information:

    • Enter the name of the institution, local support contact, and installation password from step 3 into Respondus.
  5. Post-Installation Steps:

    • Check for updates again and install any available updates.
    • From the Start tab in Respondus, select the appropriate personality (Canvas).
    • Select Chico's Canvas instance and follow the prompts to authenticate.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues during installation or setup, ensure you have administrative access to your machine. If using a campus machine, you may need to request ITSS to install the software for you. For licensing issues, verify you are retrieving the correct password from Canvas.
