Running and Viewing Content in Cognos

Running a Report

You can run reports in Cognos using the folder structure or the search bar.

  1. Select the report you want to run from the folder structure, or search for it using the Search bar in the upper-right corner.
  2. The report will open to its filter or parameter page. Select the filters you want to apply.

  3. Click Finish at the bottom of the page.
  4. The report will run and display the results.

Re-Running a Report

To run the same report again:

  1. Locate the blue arrow icon at the top of the report window.
  2. Select the drop-down menu next to the arrow.
  3. Choose to re-run the report with the same filters, or modify the filters before running it again.
  4. Click Finish to refresh the report and view updated results.

Sorting Data

After your report results appear, you can sort the data to help analyze the information:

  1. Click on the desired column header (e.g., Name, Date, Department).
  2. Sorting icons will appear (up/down arrows or a menu icon). If they do not appear, you may need to click the Sort icon.

  3. Select ascending or descending order.
  4. The report will refresh and reorder the data.
  5. If available, you may apply additional sorts to other columns.

Selecting a New Report

To run a different report:

  1. Return to the Cognos home page using the Navigation menu.
  2. Browse the folders or use the Search bar to locate a new report.
  3. Select the report to open the filter or parameter page and apply your desired options.

This allows you to easily shift your focus to new reporting needs as required.
