When attempting to launch Kaltura Capture on macOS, users may see a "Failed to Load Settings" error. This prevents Kaltura Capture from opening and recording. The error can occur even after uninstalling and reinstalling the software, as certain configuration files remain stored on the computer.
Environment
This article is relevant to you if:
- You are using Kaltura Capture on a macOS computer.
- You see a "Failed to Load Settings" error when trying to launch Kaltura Capture.
Solution
To fix the "Failed to Load Settings" error in Kaltura Capture on macOS, follow these steps:
- From the Finder menu bar, select Go.
- Select Go to Folder….
- In the text field, type the following path, replacing <username> with your Mac account username:
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Kaltura/Capture/Settings
- Delete all files inside the Settings folder.
- Reinstall Kaltura Capture from your institution’s Kaltura download page.
Now Kaltura Capture should launch successfully without the error.
Root Cause
When Kaltura Capture is uninstalled or updated, its preference files are not removed from the system. These leftover files can conflict with version 5.0+ and cause the "Failed to Load Settings" error. Manually clearing the Settings folder ensures the application starts with a clean configuration.
