Create a Quiz in Canvas Using New Quizzes

Canvas currently offers two quiz engines: Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes. New Quizzes is a more modern assessment tool that provides a wider variety of question types and a more consistent user experience. If you're part of the New Quizzes pilot at Chico State, you can begin using this tool now. New Quizzes will be available to all courses in the coming months.

This guide explains how to create a quiz using New Quizzes. It will walk you through the process of selecting the quiz engine and getting started with your first quiz.

Prerequisites

To complete this guide, you must:

  • Be enrolled in a course as a Teacher, Designer, or TA
  • Be part of the New Quizzes pilot
  • Have New Quizzes enabled in your course

Create a Quiz Using New Quizzes

To create a quiz using New Quizzes, do the following:

  1. From Course Navigation, open Quizzes.
    Canvas course navigation. Quizzes is highlighted.
  2. Select +Quiz.
    Quizzes page in Canvas. The Add Quiz button is highlighted.
  3. If prompted, select the New Quizzes option [1]. To save your quiz engine selection for this course, check the Remember my choice for this course checkbox [2]. Finally, choose Submit [3].
    Choose a Quiz Engine dialog.
