Prepare Your Course to Use New Quizzes
Canvas offers two quiz engines: Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes. New Quizzes provides additional question types and a more modern assessment experience.
To use New Quizzes in your course:
- You must be enrolled as a Teacher, Designer, or TA.
- New Quizzes must be enabled in the course.
Some New Quizzes question types may present accessibility challenges for students using assistive technologies. Review question types carefully when designing assessments.
Enable New Quizzes
- Open the course you are trying to turn on New Quizzes for.
- In Course Navigation, select Settings.
- Select the Feature Options tab.
- Locate New Quizzes in the list.
- Select the red X icon next to New Quizzes.
- Select Enable.
- The red X icon will change to a green check mark once enabled. You can now access New Quizzes from the Quizzes area in Course Navigation.
Create a New Quiz Using the New Quizzes Engine
- In Course Navigation, select Quizzes.
- Select + Quiz/Survey.
- If prompted, choose New Quizzes/Surveys.
- (Optional) Select Remember my choice for this course.
- Select Submit.
Your new quiz will open in the New Quizzes editor, where you can add questions and adjust quiz settings.
