Zoom's polling feature allows meeting hosts to create and deploy polls during scheduled meetings. Polls can be anonymous, and polling results can be downloaded as a report after the meeting ends. Before you can use polling in your meetings, you need to enable the feature and ensure your environment meets the necessary requirements.

Prerequisites

Before enabling polling, ensure you meet these requirements:

  • You must have access to your Chico State Zoom account via SSO to access institution-provided Zoom features.
    • If the Meeting Polls/Quizzes setting is locked by the university Zoom account, you may not be able to change it. Contact Learning Technologies if polling is unavailable.
  • Use a current version of the Zoom desktop client for the best polling experience with the global minimum version or higher
  • For mobile users: Participants can respond to polls using current Zoom mobile apps with the global minimum version or higher (note: mobile users can participate in polls but cannot manage them)

Step-by-Step Instructions

To enable polling in your Zoom account, do the following:

  1. Sign in to your Chico Zoom web portal at https://csuchico.zoom.us/
  2. Navigate to Settings
  3. Select the Meeting tab
  4. Select In Meeting (Basic)
  5. Scroll down to Meeting Polls/Quizzes or use the search bar and enter "Polls" to find the setting quickly
  6. Ensure that Meeting Polls/Quizzes is enabled to allow hosts to add polls before or during meetings

  7. Optional: Enable Allow host to create advanced polls and quizzes to access additional question types and quiz functionality.  This also enables hosts to set correct answers for quizzes.
  8. Start a test meeting and confirm that the Polls/Quizzes button appears in the meeting controls.

Now polling is enabled for your Zoom account, allowing you to create and launch polls during your meetings.

Troubleshooting

I enabled polling but do not see Polls/Quizzes in my meeting

  • Sign out and back in to Zoom.
  • Verify polling is enabled in the Zoom web portal.
  • Ensure you are the host or co-host of the meeting.

Participants cannot respond to polls

  • Verify the poll has been launched.
  • Ask participants to update their Zoom client if they are using an older version.

If you cannot find the polling settings, verify that you are signed in as a licensed user through SSO. Basic users may not have access to all polling features.
