Blackboard Course Data for Students After the Transition to Canvas

Some students may need access to grades, assignment submissions, or course materials from classes that were taught in Blackboard Learn before Chico State fully transitioned to Canvas.

  • Most Blackboard courses taught between 2020 and 2023 were migrated to Canvas.
  • Older course materials may not appear in Canvas.
  • Blackboard grades and assignment submissions are stored in a secure backup system.

Because of privacy, security, and intellectual property requirements, Blackboard backups are managed only by LMS administrators. In most cases, course content created by instructors cannot be shared directly with students.

Requesting Blackboard Course Data as a Student

If you need access to Blackboard course materials such as syllabi, lessons, or assignments, contact your instructor directly. Instructors control access to the course content they created.

If you only need your assignment submissions or grades, you may contact Learning Technology Services.

To request Blackboard grades or submissions:

  1. Email learningtech@csuchico.edu.
  2. Include the following information:
    • Academic term
    • Course number
    • Section number

You can find this information in your Student Center > My Schedule. You may need to switch to the appropriate past term.
