Perusall allows instructors to integrate videos into their courses for students to watch and annotate collaboratively. This guide will show you two ways to upload instructor's own videos to Perusall using Kaltura or OneDrive. Both methods will help you provide a video link that works with Perusall's player, though the process varies slightly depending on the platform.
Prerequisites
- Access to your course on Perusall
- A video uploaded to either Kaltura or OneDrive
- The ability to modify course materials in Perusall
Step-by-Step Instructions
Uploading a Kaltura Video to Perusall
To upload a Kaltura video to Perusall, do the following:
- From your browser, access https://media.csuchico.edu/.
- From the menu on the upper-right, select Login and enter your portal id and password.
- From the menu on the upper-right, select My Media.
- Locate the video you want to upload and select the Edit pencil icon. (You can also click the video link and then choose Actions > Edit.)
- From the Edit window, select Downloads, and check the box next to the highest quality HD option.
- Select Save and then select Go To Media.
- From the video, select the Downloads tab.
Note: If you do not see the Downloads tab, select Source in the previous step.
- Right-click on the Download button and choose Copy Link to copy the download URL.
- Access Perusall via Canvas or directly and go to the course where you want to upload the video.
- From the Perusall course content library, select Add Content
- Paste the link into the Video URL field.
- The link should look similar to this:
https://media.csuchico.edu/downloadmedia/index/download/flavorid/1_ltbrr0xw
- This add the video with the url as the name. You can select the video and choose Edit. Replace the video url with a more user friendly name.
In the example above, the video Wall of Sound was renamed using this method.
Now the video will be available in Perusall, and students can interact with it using Perusall's built-in tools.
Uploading a OneDrive Video to Perusall
If you prefer to use OneDrive, do the following:
- Upload your video to OneDrive.
- Once uploaded, right-click on the video and select Share.
- In the sharing settings, make the video publicly accessible by choosing Anyone with the link.
- Copy the sharing link provided by OneDrive.
- In Perusall, paste this link into the Video URL field of your course material.
Now the video will be available to students using Perusall's video player. OneDrive's storage limitations may be a consideration if you have large videos or extensive storage needs.
Troubleshooting
- If the video isn't playing in Perusall: Ensure the video link is correctly copied, and the permissions (for OneDrive) or download settings (for Kaltura) are properly configured.
- Video quality issues: Make sure to enable the highest resolution when using Kaltura to ensure the best playback quality in Perusall.
