Downloading files that are embedded directly within a Canvas course page allows students and instructors to easily access and store important course materials offline. This brief guide explains how to download these files effectively, ensuring that you have them available whenever needed, regardless of internet access. This task is straightforward and does not cover downloading files not embedded on the page.
Prerequisites
- Access to a Canvas course where files are embedded in a page.
- Ensure that you are logged in to your Canvas account.
Step-by-Step Instructions
To download embedded files from a Canvas course page, do the following:
- Navigate to the Canvas course and open the page where the file is embedded.
- Locate the file embedded within the page content. It will typically have a file name displayed in a link format, and clicking it toggles the file preview.
- Select the Download icon [1] next to the file name. This icon appears as a downward arrow.
- From the dropdown, select Download [2]. The file will save to your computer.
The file will then be downloaded to your computer’s default download location or you will be prompted to choose a location, depending on your browser settings.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues while trying to download embedded files, consider the following:
- Ensure your internet connection is stable.
- Check if your browser is blocking pop-ups or downloads, which might prevent the download from starting.
- If the download icon is not visible, refresh the page or try accessing the course page from another browser or device.
