Understanding the error
When creating or editing an assignment in Canvas, you may see the error "Due date cannot be after term end"

This occurs when the assignment due date is set after the official end date of the academic term. Canvas prevents saving the assignment in this case. This happens because assignments set to “Everyone” are restricted by the term’s end date. However, individual sections may have different end dates that extend beyond the term.
Resolve the error
To allow an assignment to be due after the term ends:
- Open the assignment that is generating the error.
- In the assignment settings, locate the Assign To field.

- Change the assignment from “Everyone” to a specific section or student.
- Save the assignment.
After assigning to a specific section, Canvas will use that section’s end date instead of the term's end date, allowing the due date to be set later.
