Why do I have to upgrade?
The primary reason for the upgrade requirement is McGraw Hill's decision to adopt the LTI 1.3 standard, which provides significant improvements in security and functionality. Unlike the previous integration versions (LTI 1.1), LTI 1.3 (also known as LTI Advantage or LTIA) introduces a more secure and comprehensive integration framework for educational content and tools within LMS platforms.
Unlike other vendors, McGraw Hill decided not to make links made with their old integration compatible with the new integration. This decision necessitates a one-time thorough upgrade process to ensure that courses using McGraw Hill content can leverage the enhanced capabilities and security measures provided by LTI 1.3 without risking the integrity of student data or course content. The eventual discontinuation of the old integration and the LTI 1.1 standard highlights the need for institutions to transition to the new standard to maintain access to McGraw Hill's educational resources and tools.
The enforcement of this upgrade follows the previous six months of the university operating both integrations in parallel. This period was aimed at providing ample time for faculty to plan and prepare their transition to the new LTI 1.3 integration. During this time, we have communicated the upcoming changes through various channels and offered resources and support to ensure a smooth transition. The move to deprecate the old integration aligns with our commitment to leveraging the latest technological advancements to enhance the security and functionality of our digital learning environment. As we complete this transition, we encourage all users to finalize their course upgrades to the new integration to benefit from the improved capabilities and to ensure continuity in accessing McGraw Hill's educational content and tools.
