At Chico State, you receive 20 GB of space for use in Google Drive, Google Photos, and other Google services. You can check your current storage.

Why am I limited to 20 GB?
As of January 1st, 2023, Google limits the amount of storage for Chico State to a collective 120 TB. This means that the sum of all storage used by Chico State students, faculty, and staff in Google must remain below this 120 TB limit. To most equitably manage this limit, the university opted to provide a generous 20 GB limit to all students, faculty, and staff.
What does this mean for users who are above 20 GB?
While they will still be able to sign in and access their view and download their files, people who use more than the 20 GB cap will experience limitations in most Google services.
- Google Drive: Users won't be able to sync or upload new files. Users won't be able to create new files in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jamboard: Until storage usage is reduced, users cannot edit or copy affected files. Forms will also stop collecting responses. Syncs between the computer's Google Drive folder and My Drive will stop.
- Google Meet: Users won’t be able to record new meetings.
- Google Photos: Users won't be able to upload photos and videos in Original or Storage Saver quality.
- Classroom:
- If a teacher's storage is full: teachers won't able to create assignments with new files that they haven't yet uploaded or created, teachers can't export grades to Google Sheets, students can't turn in assignments with file attachments
- If a student's storage is full: students can't access files in Assignments that prompt the student to make a copy.

This change in service will took effect on January 1st, 2023.
If I'm at or over my 20 GB cap, what options do I have?
To effectively manage your storage in Google Drive, you have several options:
- You can use Kaltura Mediaspace (media.csuchico.edu) to store videos
- You can use the Google Takeout service to transfer your data to a different Google account or download the data to your computer.

Are there tools available to help manage and clean up my storage?
Yes. To search for and delete unnecessary or large emails or other large files, use these Google instructions to manage files in your Google Drive storage.
