Unified Messaging FAQ

Is Unified Messaging available to me and if so how do I obtain it?

Refer to Getting Started on the navigation menu for availability and instructions for requesting/obtaining Unified Messaging.

Can I continue to access and manage my voicemail via the telephone?

Yes, in addition to processing your voicemail messages through email, you can also do so using the telephone interface (TUI) as you always have. To do so, voice messages must be kept in the root of your Exchange email Inbox. To access the voicemail system from a campus phone press the “envelope” (messages) button or dial extension 4400. From off campus dial (530)898-4400.

Is Unified Messaging available for MAC users?

Yes. While there is currently no UM for Outlook client available for the MAC, voicemail messages are delivered to those users’ email inbox with.wav file attachments which can be played back with the appropriate hardware and software, including media players found on most computers.

Will Unified Messaging work when using Outlook Web App and/or mobile clients to access my campus Exchange email?

Yes. Voicemail messages are delivered with .wav file attachments which can be played back with the appropriate hardware and software, including media players found on most computers/devices.

Why does email indicate some messages are from “Voicemail” while other messages show a caller’s names?

The Voicemail system will provide callers’ names if they are a campus Unified Messaging subscriber. Otherwise, messages will be from “Voicemail”.

Why does the message subject line indicate it’s from Day Main Menu rather than the caller’s name?

When the calling number does not have a unique matching voicemail box on the campus system (external calls and some internal calls), voicemail’s generic answering mailbox DAY MAIN MENU is used. Note: As long as the calling party ID (Tel: ) is provided it is appended; if no number is provided (blocked number) Mailbox 0000 will be added.

Why am I unable to make a call using Live Reply?

The Live Reply feature is not implemented on the campus system.
